Reval were introduced to the W family, when we received an enquiry to supply an indicative quotation for a house adaptation project in the West Country. The request was from the specialist Design for Independence Housing OT Anava Baruch whom had received an instruction to find an appropriate property in accordance with a medical negligence report. Design for Independence is a housing occupational Therapy company. The company specialises in finding designing and adapting properties for clients who suffered catastrophic injuries.
N ( service user ) was born in the West Country in 2010 and has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy as a result of a malfunction of medical equipment during birth. This has left N with high tone in her limbs and low tone in her trunk. N attends a local school and has a school OT and also a Case Manager.
After settlement of the case, Anava Baruch Housing OT was instructed to identify the criterion for the property required and find an appropriate property to suit N needs which included 24-hour care. This was not an easy task in this part of the South West. A suitable property was found and purchased. The design, planning and project were managed and completed by Anava and her team. The family moved in early September 2024.
Anava Baruch is responsible for selection of the Reval Cocoon Bath for this family. Anava wanted N to be able to be fully submerged in warm water and enjoy the feeling of weightlessness. N’s mum reported that she uses a neck support in Hydrotherapy and enjoys being in warm water as it reduced muscle tone, pain and discomfort. A bath seat was also provided for showering purpose.
N enjoys her Cocoon bath as it is ideal for use with Schuchmann Basti bath support seat or with a neck support. The bath is suitable for both showering and bathing. N did not have access to a bath at her previous home. Her mum is certain that with the new care team, the use of the bath will increase to everyday as N gets more used to the routine and as N gets older. N very much enjoys her bath and especially the Hydro Spa and Hydro Lights option.
Mum is very pleased with the improvements in sleep routines, 11 hours after a bath is normal now and especially after an active day at school. Having a regular bath has led to improvement in lowering muscle tone in N limbs but also after a bath, this leads to improved activity the following day.
A & N previously, were only able to get into deeper water if they were able to visit a public pool with a pool hoist, so having a top-quality Cocoon assistive bath installed is truly amazing. N is able to be asked if she would like a bath whenever she wants, and N is able to decide for herself as N enjoys her bath so much. As a result, mum is also a much happier as she is so happy with the choice of the bath.
